Restoration- Stone’s growth climbs in London and the South East

North East-based high level maintenance and conservation experts, Stone Technical Services, have seen a major growth in demand for their services in London and the South East throughout 2009 which is helping the company to develop further at its headquarters in Darlington.

Stone opened its South East offices in Pinner, Middlesex in March 2008 and has seen demand for its services grow by around 20% in 2009.

Recently, Stone has won a number of new contracts to carry out a variety of work in the London area.

Following the successful completion of a variety of high level maintenance repairs at the Royal Courts of Justice in June 2009, Stone has been awarded another contract to carry out blacksmiths work including the recreation of the steel and gold leafing on the outside of the historic building, which dates back to 1882.

In North East London, Stone has been appointed to carry out a spire rebuild on St John the Baptist, a Victorian church at Buckhurst Hill, close to Epping Forest, and Stone’s safety experts have been engaged by rail company, First Capital Connect, to provide a fall arrest system for safety works at Bedford.

In Surrey, Stone has won a contract to carry out extensive survey work and install a new lightning protection system at Marymount International School in Kingston-upon-Thames.

And, in Buckinghamshire, experts at Stone are carrying out vital lightning conductor testing on the 12th Century Missenden Abbey, an historic building overlooking the Chiltern Hills in Great Missenden. The abbey is now owned by Buckinghamshire New University and is used for weddings and conferences.

Since the start of 2009 alone Stone has worked on major buildings across London and the South East including Selfridges, Westminster Abbey, and Lambeth Palace.

Stone now employs 26, including 7 in Middlesex, and specialises in all aspects of high level maintenance, lightning conductor installation and steeplejack services as well as restoration and masonry refurbishment projects on churches, museums, clock towers, castles, spires and historic buildings all over the UK.

As well as working on a variety of high profile, historic buildings, Stone also carries out projects for organisations such as English Heritage and the National Trust and for well known industrial clients such as INEOS Plant Utilities and Teesside Power Station.

Managing director, Dave Stone said: “We are thrilled with how quickly we have become leaders in our field in the London area. We’ve only been properly established in the region for around 18 months but already we have worked on some of the most magnificent buildings. This sustained growth in London and the South East is driving the development of the business and is especially important as it is continually allowing us to re-invest in our Darlington operation.”
