North East High Risers get Eco-friendly
A fast-growing Darlington-based company has invested thousands of pounds to make its operations more environmentally-friendly.
Stone Technical Services, based on Kellaw Road in Darlington, is a specialist high maintenance repair company working on a variety of projects around the UK for organisations such as English Heritage and the National Trust as well as for well known industrial clients such as INEOS Plant Utilities and Teesside Power Station.
Stone has invested almost £100,000 in a new fleet of six vans which have lower CO2 emissions, replacing its old fleet which was less eco-friendly.
In addition, the company has reaffirmed its commitment to using natural materials, such as natural lime stone mortar, and eco-friendly metals, such as copper, which can be more expensive but are more environmentally sound. Stone limits its use of chemicals in all of its repair work wherever it can.
As specialists in all aspects of high level maintenance, lightning conductor installation and steeplejack services as well as restoration and masonry refurbishment projects on churches, museums, clock towers, castles, spires and historic buildings, Stone works on a variety of high profile buildings such as St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Selfridges in London.
Stone now employs 24 and plans to continually grow its workforce throughout 2009 as well as increase its £2 million turnover by 25%.
Managing director, Dave Stone said: “We have been made continually aware of how important it is to become more eco-friendly as many of our projects involve the repair of historic buildings damaged by the effects of the environment. As our company has grown and as we now have to travel thousands of miles all over the UK, we decided to invest in a new fleet of more environmentally-friendly vans and reinforce our policy of using natural materials and fewer chemicals.”
